Smiths News PLC was created when we split away from the WHSmith Group on 1 September 2006. Previously WHSmith News, our name reflects our historic legacy as the UK 's first news distributor, which began in 1792.
Last year our underlying profit was £30.5m before tax. This was achieved in a tough market and without making compromises to our service.

We recently won circa £500m of new newspaper and magazine contracts and we successfully diversified into book wholesaling through the acquisition of Bertrams. What we do

We distribute newspapers on behalf of all the major national publishers, as well as a large number of regional daily and weekly newspapers. We distribute magazines for large and small publishers alike. Our commercial team manages our relationships with some of the biggest and most influential brands in the UK .
We serve 30,000 retailers across England and Wales , delivering 73 million newspapers and magazines a week. We supply large, general retailers as well as smaller, more specialist independent newsagents. We aim to maximise sales and availability for our customers, as well as handling distribution and returns. Our sophisticated packing technology and state-of-the-art handheld scanning and tracking devices enable product to be tracked from warehouse to store. We've invested heavily in technology and are the industry leaders.

NewsWorks provides technology solutions to wholesalers, publishers and distributors in the magazine and newspaper supply chain outside of the UK . It operates from our head office in Swindon .
Rascal Solutions is the world's most comprehensive in-store newspaper and magazine system. It provides a unique approach for retailers to manage their news category.
Bertrams consists of Bertram Books, the book wholesaler, Bertram Library Services, the UK 's biggest library supply business and Bertram Publisher Services, providing distribution services to publishers.
